About this course

The purpose of the driving test is to assess whether you can operate a vehicle safely and abide by traffic regulations. According to the Texas Drivers Handbook, evaluators evaluate drivers on four fundamental skills: control, observation, positioning, and signaling. The driving practice you completed during your learner’s permit should have provided you with the necessary skills to become a competent driver and pass the test with flying colors.

What you need

A valid Texas learner permit or restricted license, a printed Impact Texas Drivers certificate dated within 90 days, and the driver education certificate for the course you completed.

What to bring to your road test

Teen Requirements for Road Test (Age: 15-17)

  • Valid Texas Learner's License (Permit)
  • Completion of a Parent Taught
  • Certificate of completion from the Impact Texas Teen Drivers (ITTD) program, dated within 90 days of the road test

Adult Requirements for Road Test (Age: 18 and over)

  • Valid Texas Learner's License/B-restricted Driver's License
  • The driver education certificate for the course you completed (ADE-1317 or DE-964)
  • Certificate of completion from the Impact Texas Adult Drivers (ITAD) or Impact Texas Teen Drivers (ITTD) program, dated within 90 days of the road test

General Requirements for All Ages

  • All individuals must complete the ITD requirements before taking their driving skills test
  • The ITD program certificate is valid for 90 days from the date of completion
